Monthly catered luncheon meetings are held at the First United Methodist Church of Marietta located one block from the Marietta Square at 56 Whitlock Avenue, N.W., Marietta, GA 30064. Meetings are on the second Thursday of each month, August through April, at 11:30 a.m. Advance reservations for lunch at monthly meetings should be made by emailing our president. You will have an opportunity to socialize with other retired educators and enjoy an informative program or social event.
The August 10th meeting will feature Marietta Mayor Steve Tumlin as our guest speaker.
Bring a friend…school supplies for Cobb students… and your willingness to serve on a committee!!
The September 14th meeting program will include a presentation on photography by C-MREA member, Bill Johnson. Joe Boland and Lester Dean will report GREA news. Members will vote on bylaw changes. The service/support focus will be donations of gift cards to the Calvary Children’s Home. Liz Bouis will begin collecting donations of items for the December silent auction.
The October 12th meeting will feature Buster Evans, TRS of Georgia Executive Director. A speaker from the Title ! Homeless Education Program of Cobb County will attend and accept donations of money and gift cards for the program. Preferred gift cards are for groceries, gas, shoes, and fast food restaurants. Walmart and Target cards are always welcome.

November is Retired Educator’s Month. The November 16th meeting program will include a presentation by GREA president, Myrtice Johnson.

- Bring books for the Dollars for Scholars table
- Continue to decorate the lunch bags for the MUST Summer Lunch program.
On December 14th Susan Crooks and her team will present five C-MREA scholarships to students who plan to enter the teaching profession and/or teachers studying for an advanced degree in education. Marietta City and Cobb County teachers of the year will be recognized. A “Winter Wonders” silent auction will be held benefiting the C-MREA scholarship fund.
The January 11th meeting will feature Laura McCarty from the Georgia Humanities Council speaking on “Three Things I Have Learned from Teachers.”
On February 8th Angelina Washington Adams will share “Apps for Seniors.” The community service items needed for the Hollydale Backpack Ministry are individual serving packets of oatmeal and grits, peanut butter crackers, cereal bars, breakfast bars, apple sauce, Vienna sausages, and cans of tuna and chicken. Hollydale United Methodist Church provides 180 bags of food weekly for needy students at Hollydale Elementary School.
The March 8th meeting will feature local authors discussing their books. Members will have an opportunity to meet the authors and purchase books before and after the meeting.
The community service cash donations will benefit the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, our state GREA philanthropy for 2017-18.
